A Mobile Medical Success 


Dargaville Hospital staff along with Mobile Surgical Services and the Northland District Health Board have celebrated the 20,000th operation by the Mobile Surgical ‘Bus’ staff which was carried out at Dargaville hospital. 

 “The operation was a child dental procedure on March 22. 

We are delighted to be able to celebrate this here in Dargaville,” said Dargaville Hospital operations manager, Jen Thomas.

“The 20,000th operation is a real milestone. The vehicle first visited Dargaville in December 2003, shortly after it first opened, and close to 2,000 people have been treated on the bus in the region since then.

“We find that children in particular may be apprehensive about their surgery but are more willing to get on the bus.”

It takes the bus, five weeks to travel the set circuit around New Zealand. Local nurses assist surgeons on the vehicle in each area.

Celeste Sherman and Brenda Jackson, two local Dargaville nurses, have attended for the past 13 years.
